New Idea Pastel Study

Just prior to my hospital visit I had been seriously looking at improving my work in order to make the pictures look like paintings instead of overworked photgraphs.
My search lead me to various painters; one who resonate with me a lot at this time is Nicolai Fechin. It's not just his work but his being, his personality, the why he painted and why he painted the way he did.
One work that jumped at me the other day is called "the Princess". It's a beautiful painting done mainly in blues and purles with a touch of yellow here and there.
It very much inspired me to try something in that style. Not being too well yet I decided to use my pastels. Simply because they are so easy to use, you can pick them up and put them down again whenever needed. There are no worries about having to walk away, leaving paint to dry on the palette, and getting hard edges or funny patches on the painting when painting with oils. Also working with the pastels gives me an idea of what I can do when painting something similar in oils later. It helps taking the guessing away.

So this here painting is done in just a few colours, using a large amount of pastel sticks though.
It's very different to my usual style but I have to admit that I do like it.
