I needed to practice the palette set out for the up coming portrait course with Clayton and this sketch was still waiting. What better place to get cranking.
I was pretty pleased se see ow easy it has become for me now to quickly mix the appropriate colours, in hue, value and chroma. The works with the Munsell system did pay off to no end.
The only issue I had initially was with Terra Rosa from W&N, it is such a strong colour that one really has to stop and pay attention when 'dipping' into the paint nut. An ordinary "lick" of the brush through the paint easily destroys any colour mix on the palette. Just a tiny little bit on the tip of the brush is often more than sufficient.
All the other colours were easy to handle.
I tried to take a decent photo but we had some really wet whether which kept it rather darkish throughout the days. Now I have received a very nice present and am working on the ins and outs of it. When ready my next photo will be coming from the Canon Eos 450d. What a beautiful camera that one is. The quick photo's I took with it were really stunning in their clearity, sharpness and colour. Beautiful.
Now I have to figure out how to take a decent photo of a flat and shiny surface as a painting.
So here is the old geezer, more work to do and updates to follow and seconly where I left him last month:
