Notes On Colour wheels and sketches

Not a lot of paint mixing since my last post, but I made some colour charts again after receiving some new paints that I had ordered a while back.
Funny thing is that after having done so many mixes I feel instinctively which paints will be usefull to me and which I can by-pass all together.
I do seem to run out of white at the most inappropriate time though. This may call for investing in a fair amount of dry pigment so I can make white whenever needed. I am thinking of getting some good quality dry pigments as a base set and am doing some research into that area at the moment.
A few days ago a lady (Linda) on the Rational Painting forum mentioned a great blog from James Geurney. Thee are some reat posts on colour and the use thereof in paintings. He talks about Masking a colour wheel to get a specific selection of colours to work with in a particular painting. Brilliant stuf.
So I created a colour wheel on the computer, using a document, which I had on file, with the correct Munsell notations translated into RBG. I used the notation for Value 5.
Now I am proceding with making various "masks" and do some test works.
I have a feeling that suddenly, since the rational Painting forum started a lot more freedom and peace has settled on us all, and with it al lot of vary good sites and information are coming to light. It is really good to see.

Apart from working on my knowledge of colour I also try to gain a bigger knowledge of proper drawing and anatomy of the human and animal body.
I had some problems with drawing profiles so am working on those at the moment, here is a quick copy I did of a drawing by John S. Sargent. It's in pencil and that does not let itself photograph easily. A little ajustment in Photoshop, but it does loose some of the softness of the pencil marks.

To bring my general knowledge up a level I dived into a nice big, heavey book on Rembrandt by Gary Schwartz. Great read. Beautifull reproductions. Well worth it's price.

And in between all this and looking after the household, I composed a list of 83 Art books which I have offered for sale on ABEBooks. The next list will have a lot of New Age and "Self Help" books I have not touched in years.
I bought a few of my books, second hand, through Abe, Alibris and Amazon, and maybe I can return the favour. Because I am such a freak when it comes to books, 99.9% of them are in brand spanking new condition. That would surely please someone.
